Wheelspace Thermocouples In MS-7001B Gas Turbines

Wheelspace It is the space (very small axial distance) between rotating wheel that is turbine buckets and the stationary diaphragms which the turbine nozzles are installed on).

Background:

Wheelspace is the space (very small axial distance) between rotating wheel that is turbine buckets and the stationary diaphragms which the turbine nozzles are installed on). The purpose of wheelspace thermocouples is to measure temperature around the wheel space region of a gas turbine.

Wheelspace Thermocouple

The Problem:

Current wheelspace thermocouples when installed could not fit the 7/32” hole in the diaphragm blocks. Upon removal of existing wheelspace thermocouple located at location T-TWS2AO-4 customer was able to identify OEM Temp-Pro and called for assistance. It is important the lengths are correct and that the transition from the thermocouple sheath and leads is no more than 5/32” in diameter so the gas turbine thermocouples can be fished through a 7/32” hole in the diaphragm blocks.

Solution:

Temp-Pro reviews construction and manufacturing records to verify the lengths are correct and that the transition from the thermocouple sheath and leads was no more than 5/32” in diameter so the thermocouples can be fished through a 7/32” hole in the diaphragm blocks. Temp-pro confirmed dimensions and was able to manufacture and supply replacement wheelspace thermocouples for all locations within MS-7001B Gas Turbine.

Results:

The customer was extremely pleased with Temp-Pro’s wheelspace/gas turbine exhaust thermocouples and installation was a success during scheduled outage.
